Suzano and Mitsui & Co announce agreement to accelerate innovation in new biomaterials alternatives

The world’s largest market pulp producer, Suzano S.A., has today signed a formal Joint Collaboration Agreement with Mitsui & Co. Ltd., a Japanese global trading and investment company, to study next generation bioproducts using Suzano’s sustainably-farmed eucalyptus biomass and residual by-products from the pulp production process.

Under the non-exclusive deal, the two companies will work together to study the technical and commercial feasibility of scaling up potential new ventures aimed at producing more environmentally-friendly alternatives to fossil fuel-based compounds, in areas such as biomaterials and biofuels.

This agreement will leverage Mitsui’s global expertise in areas such as chemicals, performance materials, and energy, as well as Suzano’s experience in large-scale sustainable production of biomass through farming eucalyptus trees.

Under the agreement, the two companies will put in place project teams to collaborate across a three-year period, to conduct feasibility studies and due diligence across a number of promising opportunities across the new bioeconomy landscape. The Joint Collaboration Agreement does not include any capital expenditure commitment.
