Suzano in Mato Grosso do Sul

We have been in the state since 2009, when the first plant, at the time part of Fibria, started operating in Três Lagoas. In 2017, the company inaugurated its second production line. The site is currently our largest pulp plant and one of the most modern in the world. With two production lines, it employs a team of approximately 6,000 people, including direct employees and contractors, in industrial and forestry operations.

In addition to Três Lagoas, we have also reached Ribas do Rio Pardo, located 100 kilometers from the capital Campo Grande. This is where we have been implementing the Cerrado Project, which includes the construction of the largest single-line pulp plant in the world, with a production capacity of 2.55 million tonnes of pulp per year.

The project is receiving an investment of R$22.2 billion, one of the largest investments in the private sector in Brazil today. Currently, the construction of the site is creating 10,000 direct jobs, in addition to thousands of indirect jobs. When it starts operations, by June 2024, the new site will employ 3,000 direct employees and contractors.

JornalEco (“EcoJournal”)

To raise awareness about environmental care among 4th graders and education professionals, we created JornalEco (“EcoJournal”), a vehicle that publishes educational materials and activities focused on sustainability and environmental conservation. Participation in the program is voluntary. In 2022, 90 education professionals and approximately 2,000 students in 23 schools in Brasilândia, Selvíria and Três Lagoas participated in the initiative.

Urban Gardens

Ribas do Rio Pardo — MS

Through the implementation of ecological vegetable gardens in the urban area of Três Lagoas, the project aims to increase food security and income generation for families in situations of social vulnerability. The initiative is a partnership with the AEMS College and the Salesian Mission. In 2022, the project benefited 70 families, with a positive impact on 286 people.

Sustainability Space

The Sustainability Space, located at our plant in Três Lagoas, is an income generation opportunity for producers and partners of our social programs. The Space opened in April 2022 and, a year later, had impacted 120 people, generating more than R$30,000 in income, which went directly to the participants in the project.

Abrasel

The project offers qualification and professional training for workers in situations of social vulnerability. In addition to recommendations for jobs in the food sector, the initiative offers short-term courses to train kitchen assistants, barbecue chefs, fish cooks and waiters. In 2022, the project trained approximately 100 people, achieving a 70% employability rate.

Colmeias (“Beehives”) Mato Grosso do Sul

The Colmeias (“Beehives”) project encourages sustainable honey production within our eucalyptus farms. In addition to supporting the development of beekeeping and assisting in the production and sale of products, we help increase the income and improve the quality of life of our neighbors. Through an investment of R$450,000, the program serves 141 people indirectly. In Ribas do Rio Pardo, we have a partnership with Coopardo Cooperative.

Professional Connection

To connect unemployed workers in situations of social vulnerability with potential employers, we entered into a partnership with the Salesian Mission to offer different classes, such as in gardening, cleaning, makeup, automotive mechanics, electrical work and digital media tools. Participants in the project may receive offers for permanent or temporary work. In 2022, approximately 95 people participated in the initiative in Três Lagoas.

Agroforestry System Project (SAF, in Portuguese)

We assist in the implementation of agroforestry systems in settlements near our farms in Brasilândia, Ribas do Rio Pardo and Santa Rita do Pardo. The initiative encourages the sale of food at farmers markets, government programs and grocery stores. In 2022, the project received an initial investment of R$300,000 and served 75 people indirectly.
