Suzano Biofiber™ expands the innovation possibilities from eucalyptus trees. It is a new bioproduct from our renewable feedstock, eucalyptus farms certified by PEFC¹ and FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council®)² standards. Its use can provide lighter materials, reduce raw material consumption and promote replacement of fossil-based materials

What is Biofiber?
Biofiber™ is a fibrillated cellulose pulp produced by Suzano through purely mechanical processes: a perfect union of shearing and hydraulic forces. The fiber opens, releasing the microfibrils, which form a 3D network that bringing unique properties to a range of applications and market segments.
Main characteristics of Biofiber:
3D network of fibrils with large surface area;
Pseudoplastic behavior characterized by decreasing dynamic viscosity with increasing shear rates;
High bonding and retention potential;
High stability under different conditions in water based solutions (pH, temperature and salts).

What is ligin?
In nature, lignin is one of the main constituents of wood and is present in several plants in order to provide rigidity, impermeability and resistance against biological attacks. It is an abundant biomaterial from a renewable source (bio-based): it makes up around 25% of eucalyptus wood and represents around 30% of the non-fossil organic carbon we have in the biosphere. Furthermore, it comes from a co-product of the cellulose production process, therefore, it does not consume additional area and does not compete with food feedstock.

Suzano Ecolig is a technical Kraft lignin from eucalyptus, with high antioxidant and UV radiation absorption potential, in addition to multiple chemical functionalities and versatility for different modifications due to its botanical origin and production process. Where is Ecolig produced?
The Suzano Ecolig production process was developed by Suzano's research and development area in 2019. With a capacity of 20 thousand tons per year, we produce lignin at our Limeira Unit, in São Paulo, in the first certified eucalyptus lignin factory in the world, demonstrating the company's pioneering spirit in the market.
As it is a product of natural origin, Suzano Ecolig has quality fluctuations
No. Ecolig is a technical Kraft lignin from eucalyptus, therefore, it goes through controlled industrial procedures after being extracted from nature. To provide a stable and consistent bioproduct, Suzano follows strict standards of quality, sustainability and security of supply, which begin with the standardization of raw materials (our entire eucalyptus plantation is made from selected clones), through control of processes in our laboratory and industrial structure, to provide a bioproduct with proven quality.
